Their Story

Her Story

When I was a junior in high school, I was taking a science class and I noticed a cute guy sitting several rows behind me. I was a little shy, so all I could muster up the courage to do was ask him for extra paper to take notes on. It never went anywhere past that until he caught up with me after school one day in the parking lot and asked me out. I was shocked that he was asking me out since we had talked so little and I thought he never really noticed me. I said yes and we went to lunch that weekend. He was really funny on that date and made several jokes that made me laugh. I had never been on a date before, so I was nervous, but I was somehow very at ease with him. I think it was because there was no pressure or awkward moments. We developed a good friendship. We dated for a while after that, but we decided to just be friends during college. We agreed that if we still wanted to be together after we graduated college, that we would get back together. I didn't want to leave, but I had always dreamed of going to college. The one I was accepted to was not the same as his. Throughout the years, he called me on occasion and I would call him, too. He asked me one night over the phone about getting back together, but I had to finish my senior year first and get my life in order. I still missed him all the time, though and wished that we were back together often. I was glad we were able to keep our friendship alive during those years, because once I graduated, I found out I was moving for work back in The Woodlands, where he was living again. I decided to surprise him with the details. I just hoped with everything I had that he wasn't in another relationship or that he had lost interest in a relationship with me. I called him and said I was in The Woodlands, so he asked me out to lunch. What a relief. I used GPS to find the restaurant he was talking about and once I arrived there, I realized it was the same restaurant we went to on our first date. I couldn't wipe the smile from my face after that. I met him inside and we chatted like nothing had ever changed. We talked and joked and flirted, then we walked around the same park we did as last time. He admitted to me that he loved me and that he always had. It was one of the best days of my life. We dated for a few months after that then he proposed to me on a beautiful nature trail in my old neighborhood. I said yes, of course.

His Story

I was seventeen years old in high school when I met Emma. On the first day of school, she walked into my science class and sat down a couple of rows ahead of me. I don't remember much about that day except that I thought she was breathtaking and I really wanted to ask for her number. Well... weeks went by, then months and I was always too hesitant to ask for her number. I had a few conversations with her, but they were always short and had to do with asking her what time it was. I asked her that so many times apparently that she probably thought I was crazy, as the class we were in was always at the same time of day. She only talked to me if she needed extra notebook paper. I was usually smooth, but not with her. One day, I saw her outside in the parking lot walking to her car and I caught up with her and finally asked if she wanted to go out that weekend. She said that she thought I would never ask, then  she gave me her number. I was very confused. We went out that weekend to lunch and a walk in the park and that was one of the most memorable days of my life. That day, I found out how much we had in common. We both grew up in The Woodlands, Texas and we loved how many trees there were around there. Then we both liked the same movies, sports, food, and we both loved traveling. There was a balloon stand and she chose a pink balloon. I kept picking on her that her favorite color was pink just because I liked joking around with her and hearing her laugh. We decided to date each other and went out until our senior year. Graduation day came, and we had already decided beforehand to take a break and get our college degrees. Honestly, I felt like this was the end of our relationship. Several years went by and we had communicated on and off for a while. There came a time when I really wanted to get back together with her, but she lived all the way in Florida while I was at UT Dallas. A couple of years after we graduated from college, She called me and said she was in town. I was back in The Woodlands for work and I asked her to go to lunch with me. She agreed and met me at the same restaurant we met at when we were seventeen. So many lost memories were uncovered as we talked about our lives and caught up with each other. For old time's sake, we took a walk in the same park again and it was like were were seventeen all over again, chatting and joking around with each other, not wanting the day to end. She told me she had moved back to The Woodlands for work as well and we decided to date each other again. A few months later, in the winter time, I took her out on a date and afterwards, we ended up walking on a path in her old neighborhood that was lined with many trees. I asked her to marry me and she said, "I thought you would never ask."
